South Carolina is one of the lowest states in the US when it comes to education; yet, when it come to getting support, we are the last to be considered.

    This needs to be addressed.

    To Whom It May Concern:

I respectfully request we do not cut educational spending but put more emphasis and demands on our children and schools, as this is the only way we are going to compete in a world economy. Visiting other countries I have seen the intense importance that (South Korea for example) they put on education. Sending their kids to school six days a week instead of five, having shorter summer vacations... Having their kids learn English in after school programs... The country which will prosper in the future will be the country who invests in the children's education! The children are our future!

    Thanks,

I want to see Teens and kids get a better education. I do not agree with no child left behind. A child is not being helped when he or she doesn't have to earn an education and just pushed forward without getting a hold of the basic elements needed to get them through life.

If South Carolina is to join the twenty-first century, it must improve its educational system. Modern companies simply will not hire unqualified workers. As things stand now, South Carolina is not preparing its children to fill the many highly skilled jobs that will be available in the future. Support excellence in education and help to bring our state out from the dark ages. Thank-you

It is obvious that our governor desires to cripple public education to the benefit of his private school tax break for the rich. We need to protect ourselves from individuals who can use the governors office to their own benefit.

"Minimally adequate" in regards to education is completely unacceptable! High quality education especially in this age of a global economy and the competitiveness of the workforce is a must to "adequately" prepare the children of SC for the future!

I have lived here now for 30 years and have seen tourism pushed and now the lottery for higher education....wake up South Carolina...if they don't graduate from High School they don't go on to college. Education from the elementary level up should be stressed so that our children can read and our teachers should be paid more along national levels so that we can get the best not the ones that can't get a job anywhere else.

I am appalled that the Governor would turn down money that would be allotted to help our already failing school systems and help our teachers keep their jobs in South Carolina schools. As a graduate student I know how important it is for children to get quality public educations throughout their grade school years, and for too long this has not been a priority in our state I hope everyone comes together and fights to make our children's education better because they deserve it. When lawmakers whose children are in private schools make detrimental decisions regarding public school education it is really a slap in the face to the citizens of not just this state but of this country, and it is a very selfish way of thinking. A quality public education should not be a luxury it should be a right, and if we realize that then many problems can be avoided in this country. This is not an isolated issue, issues with education trickle down through our society in many ways and are manifested in crime rates and unemployment rates among other things. Lets help our children to be successful beginning at a young age so they do not grow to be adults left with no choice but to commit violent acts in order to survive.

Governor Sanford is now using federal stimulus funds to get revenge on legislators the same way he has been trying to punish educators, administrators, and anyone who dares to oppose his scheme to divert tax dollars. Since elected to congress in 1994 he has tried to fund private schools through vouchers or tax credits. He is no doubt willing to shut down the Governmet of South Carolina the same way he tried to shut down the federal government in 1995.We have to amend the Constitution of South Carolina to demand quality schools, and impeach and recall public officials who put their own personal agenda above the welfare of the people of this state.
