Goodbye Minimally Adequate: Support the Constitutional Amendment for a High Quality Education in South Carolina

Resolution

Mr. Bennett presented a resolution supporting an amendment to replace the words, “a minimally adequate education” with the words, “high quality education” in the South Carolina Constitution.   

  Therefore, be it resolved that the Newberry County School District Board of Trustees supports an amendment of Section 3, Article XI of the Constitution of South Carolina to read as follows:
 
                        “The General Assembly shall provide for the maintenance and support of a system  of free public schools open to all children in the State and shall establish, organize, and support such other public institutions of learning, as may be desirable that will provide a high quality education, allowing each student to reach his highest potential.” 

Mr. Hamm motioned, seconded by Mr. Attaway to support an amendment to replace the  words, “a minimally adequate education” with the words, “high quality education” in the South Carolina Constitution which was passed with a majority vote.  Mr. Bledsoe voted in opposition for the resolution.
